VET BI Report Aug 2021 – Activity returns to ‘normal

Welcome to the August 2021 issue of the VET BI report.

There were 10 new RTO registrations in August. This is settling back to a historically average rate:

QLD (3)
45716 Kipir Enterprises Pty Ltd (Broad Scope)
45717 My Cpe Pty Ltd (Financial Services)

VIC (3)
45718 Victoria Healthcare College Pty Ltd (First Aid and Welfare)
45721 Melbourne Building Academy Pty Ltd ()
45724 Readygrad Pty Ltd (Business)

WA (3)
45720 Contempo Education Pty Ltd (Hospitality)
45722 Anoint the World theological Seminary (Religion)
45725 Skills Recruitment Pty Ltd (Business)

Restrictions

Tracking regulatory decisions has become more difficult lately with the retention of history on TGA and the interface. This gives us more information but it is less coherent and each case has to be analysed individually to understand the decision and applicable dates, the AAT review process, and the resulting current status. In the interest of fairness, we will endeavour to paint any RTO mentioned in the least negative light we can given the information available. Rather than a definitive list, please treat this content as a selection of news items which may be of interest.

There were relatively few restrictions and and sanctions this month and a number of temporary restrictions expired this month:

General suspension
40339 Zenith Institute of Management (Adelaide City and Inner Suburbs, Business) – decision subject to current review.

Partial suspension
31215 One Step Further Pty Ltd (QLD Gold Coast, Broad Scope)
45115 Xpert Solutions Pty Ltd (Sydney Western Suburbs, Broad Scope)

Expiration of restrictions
45533 Bella Training Pty. Ltd. (Sydney Western Suburbs, Food and Beverage and First Aid)
45535 Australian College of Management and Innovation (Perth Southern Suburbs, Business)
45536 Claire Clifford Training and Education Services Trading As Mind Challenge (Sydney Western Suburbs, Community Services)
45538 Truelearning Australia Pty Limited (Sydney Western Suburbs, Welfare)
45544 Resolute Training Pty Ltd (Sydney Southern Suburbs, Real Estate and First Aid)
45547 College of New South Wales (Sydney CBD and Inner Suburbs, Business)
45548 Multisec Training (Sydney Western Suburbs, Security)

Training component changes

Many packages had at least a few significant changes.

Qualification Changes
There was a clear focus (yet again) on business, community services and welfare, with changes similar to last month. Note that the numbers indicate how many units were shuffled around within the qualifications (and how often) and not just the number of unique qualifications impacted. These figures provide an indication of the level of activity: Business (223), Community Services (117), Welfare (109), Food and Beverage (33), Building (29), Health (26), Hospitality (22), Technology (22), Foundation Skills (19), Auto Service (18), Financial Services (18), Performing Arts (18), Disability (16), Logistics (13), Agriculture (12).

Skill Sets
There were no changes to skills sets this month:

Accredited Courses
As well as business, community services and welfare (similar to qualifications), there were some changes in Training and employability/foundation courses:
Business (39), Training (26), Alternative Therapy (22), Welfare (20), Employability (16), Foundation Skills (15), Sport (15), Performing Arts (14), Religion (13), Electrical (12), Language (12), Technology (10).

Unit Content
This was a relatively quiet month for unit changes. The inclusion of counts for units moving in and out of qualifications means that unit change volumes follow the qualification changes: First Aid (83), Safety (42), Business (34), Resources (25), Electrical (24), Manufacturing (24), Forestry (23), Building (21), Equipment (20), Civil Construction (16), Agriculture (14). The first aid changes appear to represent the continuing trailing edge of qualifications being updated to refer to the recently changed first aid units.
